I passed a wine store today in Bushwick. Yes, a real, bona fide wine store, without a tacky sign that sadly announces, “Liquor Store.” Oh, no no no. It’s an actual Wine Merchant. On Bogart Street.
The New Bushwick, home to the up-and-coming Arts Crowd, is a mix of lower-income minority families and hipster overflow from the Burg, looking for real estate deals in a recession. With the new influx of young, artistic interesting people, Bogart Street, located right next to the L train, has become Bushwick’s answer for a community meeting house. It’s home to a natural food store, a coffee house with Wi-Fi, a hummus joint, an art gallery and now, a Wine Merchant.
That’s classy Bushwick. Keep up the good work and maybe I won’t move.
