The Man Booker Prize, the presitigious literary award from the UK, has for the first time awarded its prize to a person from the United States. The author of The Sellout, Paul Beatty, has written several books, mostly touching on the same themes of racial identity.

The book came to quick critical appraise, won the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award in Fiction and was named one of the best books of 2015 by The New York Times Book Review and the Wall Street Journal, but hasn’t had the benefit of working its way up the bestsellers list. I have a feeling that’s now going to change. I haven’t read it, but I’m going to grab it soon.
